The module uses temperature to decide when the ice has frozen enough to harvest — and if the freezer is running warm, that harvest cycle either takes far too long or never triggers.
A freezer at around 0°F produces ice normally. A freezer a few degrees warmer produces slowly, or not at all — while still keeping food perfectly frozen, which is exactly why nobody suspects it.
It's inexpensive, and it settles the question immediately.
If the freezer is running warm, the ice maker isn't your problem — the causes are the ones that affect any freezer: dirty condenser coils, a failing door seal, a defrost fault building ice on the evaporator, an overfilled compartment blocking airflow, or high ambient temperature.
Fix that, and the ice maker frequently starts working again with no repair at all.
There's water on the floor or ice building up outside the bin — leaks get worse, and water inside a freezer cabinet causes damage beyond the appliance.

And if the leak is significant: turn off the water supply valve to the fridge and switch the appliance off at the socket before investigating.
